When I leave Manila.. the new country I’ve called home for a few months … What will flash through my memory will look like a kaleidoscope and sound like a mix tape like you’ve never heard before. For the sounds it would be something like this : honking horns, roosters, thunder, the sweet luring…
I absolutely love reading this. I’ve probably read it more or less 10 times. lol. Don’t blame me though, it made me miss the time I visited the country by myself just 2 years ago. She captured everything I observed, experienced, and grew to love about the country that my parents grew up in. She captured everything I felt when I left the country and flew back home. She’s right about the country being very different from America. You literally feel like you are stepping into a whole different world. Life there is so simple compared to life in America. The simplicity of life in the Philippines is very humbling to see and experience. I learned a lot about their outlook of life and gained so much wisdom from the touching stories that my relatives shared with me. One afternoon, while we were eating our afternoon snack at the table and telling stories, my uncle told me, “See…we don’t have everything, but we are happy.” :)
I have visited the Philippines a few times before, but prior to my last visit, I have never missed it this much.
If you get a chance to visit, from the smiling faces and the roaring laughter of the Filipino people, you’ll come to learn that “Filipinos love life, have a joy for the celebration of life, even in the face of challenges.” :)
you’re always welcome
